Meacham makes images in black and white and color in 4 x 5 as well as medium format and 35mm - film and digital. They are printed with pigmented ink on Hahnemuhle fine art paper.

Black and white floral images of the Florae series follow in the rich tradition and history of botanical photography. The simple, singular arrangement of each flower subject relates a meditative connection with nature. Polaroid Type 55 film is used and a technique of “solarization” is applied, giving the painterly effect of a thin black line around the petals, leaves and stems.

To photograph the lush landscapes in the Hawaii series Meacham returns often to Hawaii. The overwhelming abundance of color – the sky, sea and vegetation – is translated as light and tonality in black and white images.

Impressionist paintings influenced Colleen Meacham’s series of colorful exploration of the natural landscape in the Brushstrokes series. Movement and the immediacy of the moment are recorded while an abstract and atmospheric quality as well as painterly effect is realized. Her camera catches light and color while used in brushstroke-fashion while the sensors are exposed to light.

Seeing life and renewal in the beauty of flowers and plants has inspired Meacham to photograph the delicate flowers collected from the tulip fields of Washington state. Tulip is a series of still life images which celebrates the black and white print in sepia tones.
